What are some of the acceptable household hazardous wastes?

The items listed below can be accepted but a majority of these cannot be thrown in your regular trash. The items which are considered common household hazardous wastes include, but are not limited to:

 

Waste motor oil, paints, solvents, thinners, stain, detergents, soaps, lead acid batteries, plant food, pesticides, herbicides, glues, adhesives, chlorine bleach, ammonia, shoe and furniture polish, gasoline, lighter fluid, toilet bowl cleaners, aerosol cans, oven cleaners. rug and upholstery cleaners, spot removers, drain cleaners, metal cleaners, mildew removers, diesel fuel, pool chemicals, floor wax, wood preservatives, strippers, permanent ,arkers, air fresheners, photographic chemicals, moth cru=ystals, antifreeze, brake fluid, rat bait, poison, prescription and over-the-counter medications, heavy metal batteries, alkaline batteries, mercury, polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB's) or PCB containing items, fluorescent light bulbs, white goods (appliances), propane tanks (20 lb maximum) and salts.

When does Tox-A-Way Day take place?

Tox-A-Way day is an annual event by the Decatur County Solid Waste Management District and is usually held on the Saturday following Labor Day.

What do I do with my old paint cans?

You can dispose of your old latex paint cans as long as the paint is completely dried up. You can add sawdust or even cat litter to any remaining paint. Wait for it to dry and harden, recover can and you can dispose of it with your regular trash.

What items must be held for Tox-A-Way day?

Some of the goods accepted that day are refrigerators, ranges, air conditioners, furnaces, washers, computers, computer monitors, freezers, water heaters, dish washers, dehumidifiers, dryers, microwaves, and televisions.

When does the DCSW Management District Board meet?

The Board meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the District Office.
